The United States has confirmed that it does not recognize Libya’s Government of National Salvation (GNS), also known as the General National Congress (GNC).
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki (pictured) told reporters on Monday:
“The United States Government does not recognize the Government of National Salvation, GNS, in Libya, and is not engaged with any person purporting to act on behalf of Omar al-Hassi or the GNS, contrary to some reports.”
Al Hassi claimed on Saturday that there is a close link and contacts between the GNS and the US that would allow a bridge of cooperation between the two countries.
